Sahyadri Tiger Reserve (Timings, Entry Fee, Safari Online Booking & How to Reach)

Located in the state of Maharashtra in the Chandoli-Koyna forests, Sahyadri Tiger Reserve was declared as a tiger reserve in the year of 2007 by the National Tiger Conservation Authority that is the Project Tiger. The development of the tiger reserve has been initiated in the year of 2010 by combining the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary and Chandoli National Park in Satara. This is the first tiger reserve in the western Maharashtra and fourth reserve of the state.

With an area of almost 741.22 sq. km, it encompasses Chandoli National Park‘s area of 317.67 sq. km and an area of 423.55 sq. km of Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary. In the year of 2004, the Chandoli National Park was formed and the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary was formed in the year of 1985.

Flora and Fauna @ Sahyadri Tiger Reserve

The area is bestowed with various kinds of shrubs, medicinal herbs and plants of different varieties. The Chandoli Park because of its dry and rocky landscape has inedible plants such as Memecylon edulis, Gnidia glauca, Syzygium spp, etc.

The area boasts of various mammals along with tigers and leopards. According to the census done in the year of 2006, there are almost 8 tigers and 66 leopards in the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve.

Situated in the Satara and Kolhapur districts in western Maharashtra, the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve provides tourists with various kinds of staying options in Satara. Some of the places worth visiting are Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Museum which is also known as Satara Museum, Ajinkyatara Fort which is located at Ajinkyatara Mountain and is at an altitude of 1006 m above sea level, Bogda, Char Bhinti, Kaas Plateau, Kaas Lake or Kaas Talav and many others.
